Dried Tiger Nuts

One of the agro-commodity being exported by Enricher Cooperative Society Limited is the Tigernuts (Cyperus Esculentus) . Tiger nut is a very popular tropical crop cultivated and sourced mostly in Sokoto, Taraba, Kano and Plateau states in Nigeria. It is classified as a tuber crop, even as it grows as grass. Research efforts have shown that the crop has applications in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics industries.

According to health experts, tigernuts act as anti-oxidant, as it is high in vitamin E and oleic acid content; allergen & gluten-free, which makes its consumption suitable for celiac patients; has high amount of resistant starch, which is a valuable prebiotic; controls diabetes, as its insoluble fibers help maintain the blood sugar level; lower bad cholesterol; and repair bones and tissues, due to presence of significant amount of essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, and iron necessary for bones, tissues repair, muscles, and the bloodstream.

Findings show that another potential of the crop is that it can be processed into flour, which can be used as meals or to produce biscuits and other bakery products, making it a great input in the food market.

Enricher Cooperative Society Limited export the following variety of Tigernuts:
Yellow (Big & Small varieties)
Brown variety

Dried tiger nut tuber is resistant to microbial spoilage. The weight of fresh tiger nut tuber is 70-900mg but when it is dried it is reduced to 30-350mg. The length of the fresh tiger nut tuber is about 30mm. When soaked in water, the dried tuber can absorb close to three times the weight of water compared with the weight of the dried tuber. Apart from preventing microbial spoilage, drying of the tubers ensures that the nutritional quality of tiger nut tubers is preserved.

At Enricher, we supply these products from Nigeria to any part of the globe – Asia, Middle East, Europe, North America, South America and other African countries
